In Remix, Miriam Cabessa opens classics from her private library: Goya, Chagall, Jasper Johns, Georgia O’Keeffe, Agnes Martin, Louise Bourgeois, and more; and paints directly on pages taken from the books. With a virtuoso painterly language, she builds a new, playful world that both surprises and invites reflection.
“Painting is a living being,” Cabessa says. “The moment I touch it, it animates its surroundings.” Forgotten books open again; familiar images are resuscitated in color and take on a contemporary body. It is an encounter between memory and
knowing, between the solo act and merger: a lively conversation in the form of a dream.
Edited by Aya Miron and designed by As Promised Studio, Remix was published with the support of Hapais Council. On every cover, Cabessa paints an original oil paint work, making Remix both a unique artist’s book and a one-of-a-kind artwork.
